Vision
The founder's letter
Most of the world's real work has never been automated. The roads we drive on, the buildings we work in, the goods on every shelf and the fleets that carry them were built, kept up, moved and made by people working by hand, much the way it was done a century ago.
Software changed how the world thinks, talks and trades. It has barely touched how the world is built. That is the work of my life, and the reason for this company.
Today we are introducing Project Heirs.
01
Mission
Physical automation for the businesses that build, maintain, move, and make.
02
Divisions
- Heirs Build
- Construction, remade as manufacturing.
- Heirs Maintain
- The trades that keep the world running.
- Heirs Move
- Networks that carry the physical world.
- Heirs Make
- Factories for everyone who makes things.
At Heirs we build self-driving businesses: physical companies whose operations run on software and machines, so their people spend every hour on the work only people can do.
03
The unautomated economy
Automation always arrives where work is concentrated. The largest factories, mines and warehouses got machines first because a handful of owners could pay for them.
The rest of the physical economy is not concentrated. It is millions of businesses, each carrying a small piece of the world. Together they are most of the economy. None of them can build what would change its industry alone, so none of them has.
Whoever brings automation to the fragmented physical economy builds the companies that define the next century.
04
The inheritance
The generation that built these businesses is handing them on. With them goes a lifetime of knowledge that was never written down: how a job is really done, what it really costs, what goes wrong and how to fix it.
An heir receives what a generation built and makes it stronger for the next one. We intend to capture that knowledge, turn it into systems, and give those systems to every company we touch.
05
Why a studio
Every self-driving business stands on the same foundation. Build it once and it can carry a hundred companies.
So we build our own companies and hold them. We back the founders building others. And we connect the operators who already run the physical economy, so they gain what we build without building it themselves. Each company makes the foundation stronger, and each one launches further ahead than the last.
06
The age ahead
When the businesses that build the world run themselves, building gets faster and cheaper, the work gets safer, and the people who do it earn more for their skill.
The generation before us built the world by hand. We intend to hand the next one something better.
