Companies

One company in each of five infrastructure domains

Build, Energy, Water, Connectivity and Compute. 4 Seasons field crews work in metro Atlanta today, on software we wrote. Current, Flow and Relay are developing their first devices and have not launched. Groundwork starts from the 4 Seasons code.

01 · Five domains

What each domain covers, what exists today and what comes later

Every card says what exists or is in development today and what comes later. Nothing marked later is built.

03 · The street

One crew works a route of jobs on one street

A 4 Seasons crew drives one road to a row of jobs, and one visit can install a Current Hub, a Flow Node and a Relay Node. Neighbors' Relay Nodes will reach each other by radio when a line goes down.

05 · What we have built

The software we wrote for 4 Seasons

It takes a job from the quote to the crew's pay, and it is the code Groundwork starts from. Each part below names where it lives in the repository.

One job through the code · from the quote to the crew's pay

4Seasons repository

  1. 01

    QuoteFrom photos or a scan

A vision model reads the homeowner's photos or video into catalog tasks. The code prices them, sets a ceiling for what the photos cannot show, and compares every quote with what the crew found on site. An iPhone LiDAR scan with Apple RoomPlan measures a room and reprices it to a fixed price.

  2. 02

    ScheduleCrew days in priority order

Jobs are placed in priority order on the crew and start date that finish them earliest with the least driving. Deck days avoid forecast rain, and a crew that ends a job nearby starts the next one from there.

    core/scheduling.ts · core/capacity.ts

  3. 03

    OfferA minute to accept

A visit goes to a wave of nearby, qualified pros, each with a minute to accept. The first to accept takes it under a database lock on the visit and on that crew's calendar day, so a visit never has two crews and a crew is never booked twice.

    platform/offers.ts · core/matching.ts

  4. 04

RouteEvery order tried up to 8 stops

The planner tries every order for a day of up to 8 stops and improves longer days by swapping segments (2-opt). Drive times come from a model corrected by the crews' own past drives, by hour of the day, weekdays and weekends apart.

    core/routing.ts

  5. 05

    Steps with proofPhotos before done

Each step has a procedure card in English or Spanish with its tolerances and the photos it needs, and it cannot be marked done with fewer. Waterproofing and the final walkthrough are gates: a reviewer approves the photos before later steps can start.

    core/procedures.ts · platform/qa.ts

  6. 06

    PayPaid per checked step

An approved step goes into the crew's pay ledger. Crews can cash out checked work from the app, each payment has a receipt with the photos behind it, and the app keeps a yearly pay statement.

4 Seasons

4 Seasons crews do building work, repairs and renovations in metro Atlanta. The work runs on software from the first quote to the final walkthrough, the owner gets a fixed price before work starts, and crews are paid for each verified step.

4 Seasons is the field labor for every domain. Every device the studio puts in a building will arrive through one of its visits. Construction robotics comes later and is not built.

07 · Energy

Current

The Current Hub switches a home's largest loads and schedules them around the utility's time-of-use prices. It measures every circuit it controls.

Across many homes, the same equipment becomes load a utility can call on during a peak, paid on measured results.

Flow Reserve stores drinking water for outages and boil-water notices. Both report into the same record of the house.

The Relay Node tests every connection it holds and moves traffic to one that works when the main line drops. Neighbors' nodes reach each other by radio.

Relay plans to hold the phone number on its own account, which needs carrier agreements we do not have yet.
